Safiya is from Abu Dhabi, United 
Arab Emirates. She graduated from Khalifa University of Science and Technology in 2019 with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering where she studied Thermo-responsive hydrogels. She worked as an undergraduate research assistant focusing on the synthesis of hierarchical zeolites using inorganic solutions and controlling their morphology and crystal size.
Currently, Safiya is interested in understanding the growth and crystallization of covalent organic frameworks. Her current research focuses on synthesizing COFs for the application of energy storage/water treatment. Her ultimate goal is to optimize the transport and mechanical properties of the COF films.
