Verduzco participated in the Schlumberger Energy Explorations Academy in June 2015. This program brings high school students from HISD to Rice for a one-week program focusing on energy-related science and activities.
Verduzco led student groups in building and testing “filter paper” batteries built using common metals (steel, aluminum, silver, etc.) and standard laboratory supplies. Working in teams, students will challenged to build a battery which produced the highest voltage. This required both selecting the proper combination of metals and properly constructing the battery.
